This saturday is the big Philly Spring clean up, all our civic groups in the area are coordinating efforts from Northern Liberties to Old Richmond. If you are free, take advantage of what is looking to be a beautiful day out and serve with your neighbors. Just go to www.phillycleanup.com to find out where and sign up.
40 college students from Temple, PSU, and UPenn will be serving thousands of hours for their Spring Break from March 3rd – March 11th. The theme of the week is from John 13, where Jesus washes his disciples feet. The students will be meditating, memorizing and living out of these words all week. Join us.
Here are some opportunities to serve alongside them.
Sunday Night March 4th - Come with us as we join Victory Outreach Philadelphia. We will be doing street outreach to bring in those trapped in a life of prostitution, and others addicted to drugs and living on the streets. We will meet up at Victory Outreach on 3415 N. 2nd Street at 9pm and be back home by midnight. *Last year we witnessed several people come off the streets that very night into a recovery home.
Monday Night March 5th - After cleaning up a neglected lot in the afternoon, we will be having a big block party with Pastor Doug from our friends at Epiphany Camden starting at 6pm. Email alan@liberti.org for directions.
Wednesday Night March 7th - Host a home cook meal for 3-4 students (in your home) serving with us for their spring break. This is a great way to serve those who are serving their hearts out all week, and to hear stories from them of their experiences of philadelphia, as you share your own. If interested contact Christine at christine.matulewicz@gmail.com.
Thursday Night March 8th - Teen outreach With Summerfield Church in Fishtown from 6pm-8:30pm at Summerfield UMC on Tulip & Dauphin Sts.
Saturday March 10th - Serving the Homeless at First Baptist at 17th & Samson Sts 10am-4:30pm. Also we will be working on two to three urban gardens and visiting some local shut ins we’ve been in contact with from last years Easter Outreach.
If you are interested in helping us out with any of these projects please drop our community ministries intern Alan a line at alan@liberti.org. There are many other things going on at these times and in the day you can also contact Alan if you’d like a full schedule, you are welcome to come and serve with us anytime.
We expect 40+ college students to serve their hearts out through out the city and region for 9 days. We will be also posting on this blog ways for you to jump in and serve. From small repairs and cleaning in the homes of shut ins, to taking heroin addicts who want to start a new life off the streets into christian recovery homes, to cleaning lots and starting gardens, there will be plenty of ways to serve March 3rd-11th. One of the biggest needs we have will be to host what will be a really appreciated home cooked meal March 7th, for two or three college students who are sleeping on the floor of the church and serving the city all week long. Please contact Christine if your interested in hosting a meal. Check back on the blog for a list of service projects later this month. If you are a student looking for an application go on this trip, click here.
Attention all Philly college students!! Come to liberti’s joint worship service down at First Baptist, Sunday January 29th and RSVP on facebook to share some pizza after the service and hear about a mission trip in Philly that could change your life.
For some 75,000 Philadelphians, MLK day is a day on not a day off, serving their neighbors in community projects all over the city. Do you have off and are looking for a meaningful way to spend the day and to get to know some new people? Go to www.mlkdayofservice.org

Let’s strengthen the efforts of our neighbors! Civic groups play a huge role in our community and we are grateful for the relationship many at liberti have had with them, let’s do even better. The East Kensington Neighbors Association is having their regular clean up 10 am Saturday Dec. 3rd meeting at Leotah’s place (Coral & York St). If you have questions connect with Randall Hinton. If you know about any other opportunities to serve with neighborhood groups, contact Pastor Joe.
